Ok, it wasn’t long ago that I only owned a few plum or berry blushes and honestly, I felt like my range was *really* lacking. I am a total blush fiend, so I happily went on the hunt for newΒ  blushes for the fall. I have spent spring-summer hauling so many oranges, peaches, corals and honestly, I am kind of over those colors for nails and cheeks right now. As we head into fall I will be relying more and more on plum, raspberry, pinks and nudes.

Here are a few good options, should you be in the market for a plum blush as well πŸ™‚

Feels like fall!

Plums/Berries Part 2

Swatches, L-R:

What are your favorite plum shades? Are you into a certain color right now? Do tell!

*Update: I did chat with MAC on 9/15/11 about Dirty Plum and it was confirmed that the shade has been discontinued.*

By now you have seen Ebru of Ebrushka’s Makeup Bag and I tweeting and blogging about our super theBalm finds at T.J. Maxx. But, this past Friday when I stopped in I found the steal of all steals…..

I didn’t find this palette right on my first visit. It was visit number 3 to this T.J. Maxx when I spotted it. Sadly, I only found one otherwise I would have bought more to share with all of you. BUT, my boss and her friend each found one at another T.J. Maxx near here the next day. So, just keep your eyes open. πŸ™‚

This palette is basically a soap opera in makeup form. From the packaging, name of the title, and name of the shadows, it’s downright daytime tv. πŸ™‚

This palette hasn’t officially released yet, which makes is so intriguing to be at T.J. Maxx already. It will retail for somewhere around $50 when it comes out this holiday season, but I picked it up for $19.99. LOVE that I didn’t have to pay retail.

Also, this palette is THE EXACT same one as the very limited edition Muppets palette theBalm is releasing. I prefer this one because as a child the Muppets scared me and I don’t care for anything with Muppets on them. If you like the shades but can’t get or don’t want the Muppets themed one, keep a look out for this one. It’s so worth tracking it down. The quality of the shadows is so superb and smooth. They aren’t given enough attention for sure!

Swatches L-R: The Oil Tycoon, The Estranged Mom, The Supermodel, The Bad Boy

This top row represents a great fall eyeshadow palette all on it’s own. Lovely!

Swatches L-R: The Southern Belle, The Mother-in-Law, The Guy Who Died But Didn't Really Die, The Mistress

Again, smooth and great pigmentation. Longest name for an eyeshadow ever goes to “The Guy Who Died But Didn’t Really Die” LOL. In person it’s more of a taupe, and a nice one at that.

Swatches L-R: The Step Brother, The Coma Patient, The Police Man, The Brain Surgeon

The Police Man is the only shade I can’t see myself using a lot, because it’s just so blue. Not the kind of blue I reach for…but maybe I will find something creative to do with it πŸ™‚

Swatches L-R: The Neighbor, The Stock Broker, The Basket Case, The Older Woman

I love all of these shades. Soft, smooth, and great highlights/lid colors. I can’t pick a favorite here, I love them all!

Cheeks and Lips too!

TheBalm also including lip and cheek colors. Something I really love about theBalm is that they keep the cream products separate from the powders…so no mess! Drama Queen and The Perfect Man are cheek and lip colors, while the Evil Twin is more of a lipgloss. They all feel nice on the lips and on the skin.

Swatches L-R: The Drama Queen, The Perfect Man, The Evil Twin

These can be built up or sheered down depending on the color you are looking for. They blend on my cheeks easily, and don’t feel drying when I wear them on my lips. Evil Twin is a nice nude gloss, not too sticky and looks natural.

All in all I am 100% impressed with this palette, not a single dud in the bunch which is saying a lot when you have 16 shadows and 3 lip/cheek colors. I will work on getting myself to use that light, bright blue shade…and maybe post a FOTD when I do. πŸ˜‰

Have you found theBalm at your TJ Maxx or Marshall’s yet? Do you have your eye on this palette or any of the other goodies found there so far?

Happy Sunday ladies! I am having a great weekend so far. I have gotten everything (almost) off of my to-do list, got to shop for makeup yesterday (and incidentally got to swatch the new MAC Me Over collection that releases this week, take a look at my yfrog feed here to see those shots) and am getting plenty of R&R. I hope this weekend is fairing equally wonderful for all of you!

New from theBalm

Have you met theBalm yet? I haven’t had a lot of experience with their products, but what I have tried so far I have really liked. For instance, theBalmbini palette I bought last year was a total smash hit. Having seen Temptalia’s recent post on the Meet Matte palette, I decided to try and hunt it down. I found it, and it’s really a nice palette for fall.

Meet Matte!

Not necessarily your typical matte shadows either. There is the predictable light beige, nude and brown…but the rest of the shades surprised me. I think it’s cute how they named the shadows after Matts, as a play on words.

Below are swatches, without primer, in natural sunlight.

L-R; Matt Smith, Matt Gallagher, Matt Ramirez

Typical everyday neutral matte shades, all are soft and glide on easily and not patchy. Matt Gallagher reminds me of Naked from the Urban Decay Naked Palette. I haven’t swatched them side by side so I don’t know if they are all that similar or not.

L-R: Matt McDonald, Matt Horowitz, Matt Chung

I do have to say that Matt McDonald isn’t really a true matte. It is a satin finish to me. I’m not bother because it has a nice dimension and isn’t over the top with shimmer. But, just from looking at this picture you can see it isn’t really like the other shades for some reason. Matt Horowitz kind of reminds me of Parisian Skies from the MAC Blogger’s Obsessions collection. I will have to swatch and see how close they are πŸ˜‰

L-R: Matt Batali, Matt Schilling, Matt Patel

My two favorite shades have to be Matt Batali and Matt Schilling. These will be great to use this fall! This palette is really quite nice and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the shades as I swatched them. This isn’t a full review, of course because I only just bought this and haven’t even had time to really play with it yet. πŸ˜€

I also picked up the new(er) blush called Frat Boy. Upon opening it I was immediately reminded of another blush that came out recently…

theBalm Frat Boy vs. Stila Custom Coral Blush

Side by side they didn’t look as similar as I had initially thought, but still *kind* of close.

L-R: Stila Custom Coral Blush vs theBalm Frat Boy

Which one you choose would depend on the color you are looking for. Stila’s version is more pigmented and more coral while Frat Boy is definitely more peach and less intense. Both are smooth and soft finishes. Stila’s also has a tiny bit of shimmer throughout that you can detect slightly here. Mostly you can only see it in the pan and it doesn’t fully translate to the skin. Overall, I would pick the Stila blush over Frat Boy just because I like the color a little better.

Annnnnd…..because I wanted to give back to my readers (you will see another giveaway come up in the next day or two as well) and because I wanted to celebrate 400 followers on Twitter….a giveaway! I bought these myself, this giveaway is not sponsored by anyone but me! πŸ˜‰ The Meet Matte palette is perfect for fall and I thought the Down Boy blush would be a great compliment to it.

Prior to purchasing TheBalm Balmbini palette from Sephora, I had heard of but never tried anything from the brand. I feel silly now because of how totally rockin’ this entire palette is. It is such a great way to try the brand out for size. Check it out!

This is travel friendly and will definitely be coming with me to Florida tomorrow! Yep. That’s right beauties. I am off on a week long travel adventure. I am headed to a conference in Florida for the first few days, and then an extra few just for a vacation from the cold weather here in the Midwest. Posts have been pre-scheduled and I will be available at random times throughout the week. I will return the middle of next week!
