(Side note, that’s total sarcasm in my title, I realize everyone and their second cousin twice removed has been talking about these for the past couple of weeks when they first were spotted on drugstore shelves. I am deliberately poking fun at myself for continuing the seemingly endless talk and praise for said Butters)
I didn’t intend to write a full on post about these because I honestly didn’t anticipate liking them as much as I did (and do). Then after encountering several displays, coupons and BOGO sales, I amassed more of them than I thought I would. For those girls who are just now seeing the displays in your areas or have been so intimated by the sheer number of colors, this one’s for you.
Please keep in mind I didn’t pay full price for many of these, maybe one or two. The rest I combined coupons at the stores with BOGO sales to make the price of each closer to $4. I have also spotted these for about a month now. I didn’t buy them all at once, but one or two at a time when I happened to stop in a drugstore. So far, I have only seen them at Walgreens and CVS stores. I would recommend waiting to get them on sale as they are kind of pricey ($7.50 in my area) and although I think the product and packing justifies the cost, I don’t like paying full price if I don’t have to. However, most displays only have 2 of each shade, sometimes only 1. So if you have your heart set on a shade it may be worth picking up while you see it. I have no clue if these are limited edition or a permanent line Revlon is adding.
Tutti Frutti (more orange-red on lips), Cherry Tart (has slight shimmer), Candy Apple, Sugar Plum, Raspberry Pie, Strawberry Shortcake, Creme Brule, Creamsicle, Sweet Tart
These shades are all quite different as you can see. They feel moisturizing like a balm and although they aren’t particularly long wearing (think about an hour- 1.5 hours) the darker shades definitely leave behind a bit of a stain. They aren’t sticky and I like the texture and consistency. I like the fact that they add a glossy look without being over the top shiny. I think the packaging is divine as well. I may give Tutti Frutti and Cherry Tart to a friend because I don’t particularly care for how they look on me. But the rest of them I am extremely pleased with. The shade selection is huge and at first I thought some of them would overlap, but the ones I picked out certainly don’t.
These are totally worth trying out and I give Revlon two thumbs up for creating such an awesome product!
Hi ladies (and gents)! I hope you are all having a nice relaxing Sunday. I love Sundays this time of year, especially when the sun is out. It adds a nice warmth to the crisp, cool air. Plus, it’s football season here in the states which means tailgating and munching on snacks while watching back to back football games. I drift in and out of the room unless the Green Bay Packers are on. Even then, sometimes I cheat and multitask while watching the game, like blogging for instance 😉
I wanted to share with you some items I have picked up from the drugstore recently. Some stellar finds lately, I have to say!
The first 2 items I got while stopping in to Walgreens to pick up Facets of Fuchsia for a friend, and of course obliged myself to look at all of the new displays. One of the items was Maybelline Eye Studio Gel liner in Forest. It’s not the first time I saw or heard about this. Jessica from Don’t Call Me Jessie actually tweeted and blogged about this shade previously and ever since then I have been intrigued. In a display near it were new Maybelline Colorsensational Lipsticks and the color Beige Bombshell looked like a great nude shade, so I picked that up too. I also think Walgreen’s was running a BOGO 50% off at the time so why buy one thing without adding the (usually unnecessary) second thing?!?! Sales!
In similar fashion I was at Walgreens again last week hunting down Loreal’s Owl’s Night nail polish for another friend, and Revlon was having a stellar sale. It was already $1 off the Revlon Colorstay line, but then they had BOGO 50% off AND $2 off each Revlon product coupon at the register! So I paid all of $8 for both the lipstick and the gloss when normally they are at least that much a piece! Steal!I picked up two nice berry colors, Bordeaux lipgloss and Raspberry lipstick.
I honestly haven’t been this thrilled with drugstore purchases in a long time. Nothing disappointed me. Although, the Maybelline lipstick *could* have longer staying power. Forest is gorgeous as a liner or as a base and stays put on me. For drugstore lip products, Revlon is really my favorite. Their Colorstay line is fabulous. The lipsticks and glosses are highly pigmented, don’t have a scent and feel so smooth upon application. If you haven’t tried the line out yet, wait for a sale and grab a few up.
And, it really helps me to see lip swatches of products so here you go:
It’s worth noting that no matter what I tried, the color looked washed out. It appears more Brown/Beige like the swatch on my arm in real life, though I guess it depends on your lip color really.
This color is amazing. Staying with me this fall for sure!
I was searching for a nice berry gloss and this is perfect! Another one that is sticking by my side this season.
Ahh, and I can’t go without hauling new nail polish. Seriously. It’s a problem. On the same trip that I picked up the Maybelline items I also purchased Loreal’s new LE nail polish in Owl’s Night. I honestly hadn’t heard of the collection before going in to Walgreens but once I saw that color…it was just too unique not to grab it. I subsequently visited Target and found a new Sonia Kashuk color in Blank Slate (coming up more blue on camera than it is). And on my subsequent trip to Walgreens I found another Loreal LE polish I liked and that is called Raven’s Strength.
This one was the easiest to photograph of the three. It has a nice multi-dimensional and multi-colored shimmer to it. It has a nice, smooth formula.
I had to post two pictures of this because 1- it changes from lighter to darker when you are in the sunlight vs. in the shade and 2- because the sunlight seemed to bring out more of the blue tones in it on camera and it doesn’t appear that blue in real life. I would say the shade picture is closer to what it really looks like. As always, this polish was a breeze to apply and Sonia Kashuk’s formula is spot on.
And finally, several pictures of Owl’s Night because the shade is so complex and hard to capture…
Owl’s Night is really a stunning shade, and surprising offering from the drugstore. I would expect a shade this complex to come from a higher end nail polish company. It has flecks of copper and dirty gold. It shines olive, bronze, brown and dirty gold depending on the angle and the light. Totally worth owning in my humble opinion!
Happy weekend! I have been super busy the last few days between work-related travel and trying to get my house in order for fall, all while trying to enjoy the nice humidity free days we are having. I wanted to give you ladies a sneak peak at some items you can expect to see very soon…. feel free to add your requests to the comments below if there is something special you’d like me to show or do. 🙂
How does this CARGO Palette hold up to the likes of Giorgio Armani and Chanel? You will all soon find out 😉
My first taste of Burberry beauty (thanks again to the epic swap with the lovely DelytefulSpeaks). And yes, it is as good as it looks!
My favorite new item, Chanel’s Fauve eyeshadow. It’s my most coveted item at the moment, and you will soon know why!
I was not successful at finding these myself, but luckily I have some great twitter friends in Missy, who has a fabulous YouTube Channel (Start2FinishMUA) and Courtney, who has a really wonderful blog called Eyes, Lips & Curls and they were able to get me the whole collection. Many thanks to those awesome and beautiful ladies! You will get to see these shadows up close soon, and hear my thoughts on whether they are worth tracking down!
I am definitely not an expert at storage, and most of my storage is functional, rather than fashionable. But, with a few nice touches you can make your collection easy to use, easy to find, and pretty to look at. 🙂 My storage and organization coming soon!
My first taste of Julep Nail Polish thanks to the Julep Maven Program (and seriously awesome first month discount). My thoughts on the polish and the program, less the drama (it didn’t involve me, so I’m not going there. If you want to read about the affiliate program drama, there have been many well-written posts about it already). 🙂
!!! This must mean my collection of Tarte Clay Blushes in finally complete! See how this shade compares to the others, and to other brands.
Those elusive Revlon polishes (Deborah Lippmann dupe alert!)….and whether or not they are worth searching high and low for!
I have a few more things up my sleeve but I am not going to post pictures of those because I don’t want to ruin the surprise! So, I will leave you with a lovely picture of one of my lovely pooches!
Good afternoon guys & gals! How are you doing this football Sunday? I am enjoying watching my Packers play in the championship, in full Packer garb of course. I had to post a picture of my current mani with Revlon’s take on the “it shade of the spring–orange. Or, more appropriately, orangey-coral.
I really, REALLY like this color. It is exactly the sort of thing that I keep seeing in fashion mags and websites. The polish glided on smoothly and was opaque in two coats. It is shiny and beautiful. I actually don’t have a color like this in my collection surprisingly because I am a big fan of coral everything. I can’t attest to the wear time of this because I have only had it on for two days. So far, it’s performing great. Props to Revlon for making such a trendy shade. It is part of their Fire & Ice Collection and the shade is called Siren. I actually won the entire Fire & Ice Collection from Revlon in a twitter contest (as did many other people). This nail polish has a matching lipstick that bears the same name that I am also excited about. You can find the Fire & Ice Collection at Walgreens, Target, Ulta and many other drugstores.
