Lancome has been hitting it out of the park lately! They recently released a set of three new palettes that they are touting as their “bridal” looks line. Of course, being a recent bride myself I had to investigate these new colors and see just how photogenic they might be.

In fact, they all turned out to be lovely, but there was only one that made the cut to come home with me.

Lancome Beige Brulee Palette

It’s gorgeous. I couldn’t have picked a more suitable palette not just for a bridal look (although the slight mauve/taupe tone certainly evokes a romantic vibe) but for my signature, everyday one as well.

The palette contains three matte shades, one super shimmery highlight shade and a dark liner shade that has specks of shimmer but is mostly matte.

All of the shades are buttery soft. I have several Lancome palettes and they are all equally lovely in formula. There are no gritty or chunky shadows here.

The pigmentation is just beyond! The highlight shade is stealing my heart with how reflective and glowy it is.

If you are looking for a grab ‘n’ go palette, something super-travel friendly and you can always make a look with- this is a great option. If you’re already on neutral shadow overload you may want to skip it.

29. 07. 2013

I called this post July Favorites but really, this is more like “Mid-Summer” Favorites. I’ve been steadily using all or most of these products throughout June and July.

July 2013 Face Favorites

Tarte BB Tinted Primer*- I’ve been using this on and off since getting it earlier this year. It’s a thicker consistency and incredibly pigmented. It wears all day on me and I don’t need to powder when I do. Amazing! A word of warning- the shade I have is called “Light” but it is more like a medium shade in most other lines. I’m about NC35 and it suits me just right.

Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation*- This foundation isn’t new to me but Hourglass recently released more shades (hooray!) and I have been using new shade Natural on days when my self-tan has slightly faded (Ivory is a nice match when I’m more tanned). It wears all day on me and it really does feel like a liquid to powder. This is by far my most favorite foundation. Oily-skinned gals- this one’s for you!

NARS Cactus Flower- Get your hands on this while you can! NARS is discontinuing their cream blush line. No word as to whether or not they are reformulating (my guess would be that they are). Cactus Flower is the perfect pinky-coral (Watermelon??) with a slight sheen. The sheen looks more intense in the pan and swatch then on the face. It’s drier and not tacky, more cream-to-powder which I think adds to the longevity. Gorgeous!

Jemma Kidd Dewy Glow in Rose Gold- I’ve post about this magical product before and have been reaching for it everyday. It’s not packed with shimmer but somehow adds the most ethereal glow and isn’t at all greasy.

Laura Mercier Ritual- I have been using this almost every single day since buying it months ago. I can’t get enough. It might just be my most favorite bronzer ever! I apply it with a MAC 138 for the perfect mix between contour and sunkissed cheeks. If you can still find it I highly, highly recommend this! Don’t let the shimmer in the pan or swatch fool you- there is no shimmer visible on the face.

July 2013 Eye Favorites

For eyes I have been going for golds and browns in matching creams and powders- perfect pairing for the hot summer weather. I find that pairing a cream under the powder shadows helps the look wear longer and intensifies the colors. I have done this every day in July- the hottest month for us this year so far!

Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer- My favorite eye primer at the moment. Much better than Urban Decay and cancels out discoloration. It’s drier and less greasy feeling than Urban Decay’s offering. If you had poor luck with that I would definitely give this a try.

Lancome Hypnose Drama- A staple. My favorite mascara of all time. I even convinced mymom’s best friend to buy it on a recent trip to Sephora. πŸ™‚

Tarte SmoulderEyes in Brown*- I have had this for a long time but have been getting a lot more use out of it after discovering it was the perfect base for a bronzey smokey eye. It pairs wonderfully with my next shadow…

NARS Galapagos- Another product I’ve neglected too much. I’ve been wearing Galapagos every day for a few weeks in various forms. It’s great as a liner or buffed in as a shadow and is great layered over the brown from Tarte.

Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Sugar Frost- These sticks have received a lot of praise, and for good reason. They are easy to use and wear until you take them off. Perfect on their own or layered.

Smashbox Limitless 15 Hour Cream Shadow Quartz- I met with a Smashbox makeup artist at ULTA one day. I went in for a new sunless tanner and came out with a huge new stock of Smashbox thanks to the beautiful Vanessa. For some reason I have always overlooked this line, but not any more! This shadow is fabulous (and their best selling shade). It wears all day and is perfect for bridal looks.

Urban Decay Easy Baked- This shade was released earlier this year. It’s gorgeous and might be my favorite shadow they have ever released! I use it all the time. It’s the perfect gold-almost tan. Maybe I’d describe it has honey? Either way it’s delicious and has a place in everyone’s collection.

July 2013 Lip Favorites

For lips I have been favoring glossy lip products that have a creamy or lightweight feel. In the summer I always gravitate towards corals and peaches but lately I’ve been adding pinks and rose tones to the mix.

MAC Pink Pearl Pop- This shiny pink lipstick caught my attention in May. It was sold out at two different stores I went to and after falling in love with how it looked in store I knew I had to order it. This is definitely a hidden gem in MAC’s line! I think it came out last year but it does add a beautiful pop of glossy pink to the lips- swoon!

Too Faced La Creme in I Want Candy- I am pretty sure I saw Michele1218 wearing this in a video somewhat recently. I was already a fan of the line and was happy to add this beautiful rosy pink to my collection.

Dior Addict Extreme in Spring Ball- This is probably my favorite line of lipstick ever! I have 4 shades and definitely need more. Spring Ball was released earlier this year. I think I got the matching gloss first and was convinced I need the lipstick. I was right….I definitely needed it. Creamy, pigmented and glossy these lipsticks are worth every penny!

Pur Lip Gloss Stick in Coraline- An impulse buy at the cash register of ULTA. I needed my purchase to be a higher dollar amount to use my coupon and I saw these and quickly added it to my bag. I’m glad I did. It’s a beautiful coral-orange shade that has great wear time and feels like a balm.

Lancome Gloss in Love Peach Show- I had to get this after LisaLisaD1 raved about it on Youtube. I LOVE the color. I think my boyfriend would choose this as his favorite color in my collection. It’s a peachy-nude color that is face-brightening, but in a subtle way. The only problem is the formula is not my favorite. It’s one of those glosses that starts out creamy and turns kind of tacky as it wears on. I don’t think I will get any more shades in the line based on my experience with this one. The color is just too lovely to pass it up and if anyone knows of a dupe in another line I’d love to hear about it!

Dior Lip Polish (02)- This is by far the best lipgloss I have ever used. It even topped my Clarins Lip Perfectors, which I didn’t think could be done. It adds just a touch of pink glow and the formula is not tacky, sticky or scented. It glides on smoothly, wears well and goes with everything and nothing. Go, buy this RIGHT NOW.

Dior Addict Glosses in Venus and Diablotine- Again, Dior nailed this formula. It’s the best! Venus is perfect shimmering nude to wear layered over anything and looks equally good on it’s own. Diablotine is a nice shimmering coral-red. Perfect for summer and I do really need to get the matching lipstick.

Whew. That was longer than I anticipated! That’s what I get for not doing favorites every month! Do you have any recommendations? What have you been loving lately?

17. 02. 2013

One of the things that really alerted me to the presence of beauty blogs a few years ago was my intense google search(ing) for swatches, and more importantly, comparisons. I have amassed several swatch comparison posts in my time as a blogger, many of which end up being quite labor intensive. It’s worth it, though, because I can’t tell you how many times I have gotten emails/tweets/comments thanking me for comparing X to Y and how helpful it was in deciding on a purchase. Not only that, but it benefits your truly as well. When I see things side-by-side my mind creates a little photo repository and the next time someone asks me or the general masses if A compares to B, I can generally recall how close they were or what major differences I saw.

Having said that, I have once again compiled a small archive of comparison swatches over the last few months which I probably would have done individual posts on but thought it might be more fun to just collage a few of them together for a neat little post. Enjoy!

Blue Aqua Liner Comparison Swatches

L-R: MAC Undercurrent, Urban Decay LSD, Stila Peacock, Sephora 12 Hour Peacock Blue Shimmer

Sephora had released a new shade of their 12 Hour Jumbo Pencils in Peacock Blue Shimmer some time last fall and I picked it up. I wanted to see how it compared to other shades I had in my collection. It ended up being fairly unique.

Remember that beautiful Lancome holiday shadow with the interlocking pattern (Fil d’Argent)?

Lancome Fil D'Argent

I never did a full post on it, but she is an incredibly gorgeous shadow. Comparisons below!

Lancome Fil D' Argent Swatch Comparisons

L-R: Chanel Fauve, Burberry Rosewood, Lancome Fil D’Argent, Le Metier de Beaute Corinthian

Dolce & Gabbana Caramel Blush Swatches Cooler

L-R: NARS Madly, MAC Gingerly, Tarte Exposed, Dolce & Gabbana Caramel, Burberry Russet

Of these I’d say Caramel is hands down my favorite! Thanks to two wonderful girls (Jessica of Don’t Call Me Jessie for introducing it to me and J. of Lil Lady’s Life for picking it up for me) this has happily been my most used blush of 2013 thus far. The lasting power is amazing…all freakin’ day!

MAC Betty Bright Lipstick

A long time Archie fan (IΒ  still read the comics, Team Betty ftw) I had to indulge in some of the MAC Archie’s Girls collection. I picked up two blushes and two lipsticks, my favorite being Betty Bright. I knew it would be a popular color, as all coral/peach shades MAC releases tend to be. I also knew a comparison swatch fest would be in order….

MAC Betty Bright Comparison Swatches

L-R (all MAC): Watch Me Simmer^, Sunny Seoul, Vegas Volt, Costa Chic, Betty Bright^, Ever Hip^, Cut A Caper^, Fresh Salmon^, Flamingo^, Reel Sexy^, Pleasureseeker^, Ravishing

The lipsticks marked with ‘^’ are all sadly limited edition. I included because I know many of you may own one or more of those shades and would perhaps be curious as to how they compared. The closest is Flamingo but they are different formulas. Costa Chic is also somewhat close but unfortunately not an exact dupe.

Taupe cream shadows and liners! I know Taupe is really a general term as it applies to colors that are both warm or cool, brown toned or purple toned, matte or shimmer…you get the idea. I have several that I picked that I believe fall into the “generic” taupe category (though I wouldn’t describe any of these shadows as ordinary)!

Taupe Cream Shadows Liners Comparisons

L-R: MAC Electric Cool in Superwatt, Loreal Bronzed Taupe, Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill #4, Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill #27, MAC Dangerous Cuvee, Buxom Pug, Bobbi Brown Galaxy, Loreal Liquid Diamond, Chanel Illusoire, Tarte SmolderEyes Gunmetal*, Sephora 12 Hour Dark Taupe Shimmer, Mally Dusk*, Mally Rosy Taupe*, Sephora 12 Hour Taupe, Lancome Taupe Brilliant, Annabelle Armour, Urban Decay Mushroom, Urban Decay Stray Dog

Of the above (I know… !!!!) the shade that comes to mine first when I hear the word taupe is Chanel Illusoire. Not this specific brand but just a shade type in general. It’s the perfect mix of purple-grey-brown, flecked with iridescent shimmer. There isn’t a shade in the bunch not worth owning.

Enter the beige/champagne cream shadows. I should do regular eyeliners tooΒ  but I didn’t really think of those at the time, and frankly I didn’t have space on my arm for them all! This type of shadow is my most used. They are the one-swipe wonders of the beauty world. One swipe and you can instantly brighten your eyes and face. They are great as bases or to add a touch of shimmer to any look.

Champagne Shadow Comparison Swatches

L-R: MAC Electric Cool Pure Flash, Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill #8, Loreal Blinged and Brilliant, Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill #9, MAC Vintage Selection, Loreal Iced Latte, Maybelline Barely Beige, MAC Bare Study, Sephora 12 Hour Beige, Tarte SmolderEyes Champagne*, Tarte Clay Shadow Stick (unnamed)*, Urban Decay Midnight Cowboy, Milani Champagne Toast, Mally Champagne*, Chanel Emerveille

Again, Champagne and Beige shadows take on different forms, some leaning cooler and others leaning warmer. Of the shades above, Giorgio Armani #9 is definitely my most used. I am also very happy to finally have MAC Vintage Selection in my collection. I missed out on it when it was first released in 2010 (I think) but MAC has recently brought it back in their permanent collection.

I hope you enjoyed the comparisons! If you have any comparison requests feel free to leave a suggestion below…I’m always looking for new ideas!

If you follow me on twitter you know that this lipstick is pretty much all I have been talking about this evening. Which lipstick, you ask? Oh, just a little thing that looks like this:

Lancome released this little gem of a <limited edition> lipstick in their Spring 2012 collection. Isn’t she darling? I guess this is probably my most favorite lipstick packaging EVER.

But, it’s what’s on the side that counts the most, right? πŸ˜‰ Her name is Cotton Candy (according to the Lancome website, but my box calls her Soft Marshmallow??) and she is of the Gourmand Color Bare Lips Sensation descent. That’s a mouthful so let me break it down for you like this: it’s a glossy/sheer lipstick that feels moisturizing on the lips.

And why wouldn’t it feel moisturizing? Check out two ingredients that caught my eye (thanks to Larie from Eye Heart It for prompting me look at the ingredients list)!

*Side note for the grammar police- I realize I switched between subjective and objective pronouns in this post, but just go with it πŸ˜‰

Not my traditional swatch format, but the left is Lancome Cotton Candy and the right is MAC Flamingo, just for comparison sake. The Lancome lipstick is definitely more pink and more glossy.

And here she is on this lips! A stunning shade and formula. I can’t vouch for wear time but I can say this is one of the more silky lipstick hybrids I have used. It actually feels moisturizing, as opposed to just feeling glossy.

Do you *need* this? Let me put it to you this way, does a dog need a bone? OF COURSE! It’s the single item from all of the spring collections I have seen that is positively radiant in every way and worthy of splurging on. It’s available now from Macy’s, Nordstrom’s, and Lancome’s website.

When I initially started seeing little sneak peeks of spring collections last fall (yes, that early) I started my list of what I thought looked amazing. Slowly but surely several of the items on my initial list have dropped off after seeing the actual product or swatches. But a few things stayed on. Here is a little face of the day showing two of those items.

But first, the star of the this show:
