I was tagged by the very lovely J from Lil Lady’s Life to do the Lipstick Tag. Below are my answers to the questions. I really liked going through my collection and rediscovering my lipsticks!
1. How Many Lipsticks Do You Own?
Can I just say A LOT, or is that cheating? I own over 100 lipsticks in dozens of colors and multiple finishes and formats. I haven’t purchased all of them myself as I do work with PR on several brands, but it’s safe to say I’ve purchased more than 75% of what I own. So, at least I put my money where my mouth is. Literally.
2. What Was Your First Lipstick?
While I don’t remember the exact shade that began my lipstick journey, I do know that this little beauty is one of the oldest in my collection. I don’t think they make these anymore, but it’s Maybelline Diamonds lipstick. This shade is Pink Carats and I remember wearing the heck out of this many years ago.
It’s a shiny, sparkly warm pink. I can see why this would have been a go-to shade for me as it’s incredibly lightweight and wearable, though a bit frosty for my current taste.
3. What Is Your Favorite Lipstick Brand?
Although I certainly enjoy my NARS pencils and my vast collection of MAC shades, Dior’s formula for all things lip related is by far my favorite. Whether it’s the original Dior Addict, the Dior Addict Extreme or Rouge Dior I’m almost guaranteed to love every shade. There isn’t a single color I have tried that I haven’t liked and every formula is as comfortable and luxurious as the next. Their glosses and lip pencils are amazing as well. Definitely worth it.
4. What Is Your Most Worn Lipstick?
Given my last answer this shouldn’t be a surprise. There was a time when I first purchased this shade (Dior Addict Extreme in Saint Tropez) that I wore it practically every day for months. I think for an entire summer it was one of the only lipsticks I grabbed for. It’s a favorite in spring and summer for sure, but easily worn all year round.
It’s a face-brightening peach with a little bit of pink to make it more wearable. The formula is glossy perfection.
5. What Is Your Favorite Lipstick Finish?
This was easy: glossy. I love a glossy, shiny lipstick. I can take or leave most matte formulas because most of them (with the exception of NARS Matte Lip Pencils) are uncomfortable and very drying. I find glossy finishes easier to wear and some formulas are quite long-lasting and pigmented. Whether it’s pencil or tube, there aren’t many glossy formulas I don’t like. Some of my favorites shown above are NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil, Tarte LipSurgence Lip Luster, Dior Addict Extreme, Chanel Rouge Coco Shine, Burberry Lip Mist, MAC Sheen Supreme and Too Faced La Creme. The Pixi Beauty pencil was limited edition from their Tinkerbell Collection, I believe, and is one of those color-changing pinks. It’s nice and lightweight.
6. What Was Your Last Lipstick Purchase?
I was browsing around Nordstrom Rack and came upon a bin of Kate Spade Supercalifragilipsticks (cute, but a mouthful). They were at an extreme discount so I picked up the shade that was the most “me”….a coral, obviously. It’s call Pop Art Pink.
Could you have said no to this price?!
7. How Many Lip Products Are In Your Bag Right Now?
I’ve been getting better at not letting my handbag swallow up my lip products. Plus, that’s a lot of extra weight to carry around. This is pretty well-edited for me.
Products: Carmex Lip Balm, NARS Gold Digger, Bite duo in Retsina/Shiraz, MAC Huggable Lip Colour Touche, MARC Jacobs Heart Shaped, Bare Minerals Moxie in Speak Your Mind, Buxom Lip Polish in Creamsicle, Kate Spade Pop Art Pink, YSL Golden Gloss 54
8. What Is Your Favorite Red Lipstick?
I cheated and chose two. I don’t wear red lipstick that often anymore. My tastes have changed and I tend to focus more on dramatic eyes than bold, red lips. Props to ladies who can rock both! If I’m going for an all-out no fear red I’ll grab NARS Red Square. I read it was used on Betty and Joan in my favorite series Mad Men. Swooooon. The other is a perennial favorite. I use it most at Christmas time but it’s my preferred shade of “red” if I don’t want to attract too much attention to my lip color. It’s Rouge Dior in Nocturne.
Red Square is bright and is an orangey, retro red. Nocturne leans more pink and has a gold sheen throughout. It’s perfect.
9. How Do You Store Your Lipsticks?
My storage is a work in progress. It’s organized chaos, really. I use Ikea Alex drawers for all of my makeup storage and two of them are dedicated to lip products. If you look closely, there is organization among brands, but little else. I need to improve this section. It bothers me. I’ve used different plastic bins to try to organize in a way that makes sense for how my brain thinks. I usually know a lipstick by the brand, not the color. For instance if I know I want to wear a nude lipstick my brain thinks of the brand that makes the nude I want. I’m not sure why I’m that way, I just know that my makeup storage is easier to access when it’s by brand rather than color.
10. What Lipsticks Are You Currently Lusting After?
I’d have to say I’d still like to pick up something from Dior’s spring collection, but not sure if I will because it’s hard to find a shade I don’t already have at least one of. The formula is just so nice that it’s a constant lemming for me. I’ve also caught a glimpse of the MAC Fantasy of Flowers collection and the lipsticks are floral-inspired (hello, this is Bloomin’ Beauty after all) and I’m interested to see how they look.
