I’d like to say it isn’t often that I come across beautiful highlighters that give a “lit from within” glow to the face, but as evidenced by the photo below I think that’s probably a stretch. What is fair to say is that I come across beautiful highlighters all the time, and I love the fact that I do. It’s one of my most favorite makeup items and I’d like to say I have enough of them- but really, I don’t think I’d be fooling any of you.

Enter Laura Mercier’s latest snap-off-the-shelf item: the Spellbound highlighter released in her fall 2013 collection. We all remember the amazing Rose Rendezvous (featured here) from 2011. It quickly sold out and became incredibly hard to find, if not impossible. I suggest ordering this right away if you are as obsessed with highlighters as I am, or if you have even the slightest inclination towards it. If you don’t, I assure you that months of skipper’s remorse will follow.

Laura Mercier Spellbound

Are you Spellbound yet??

This is the warmer, less intense version of Rose Rendezvous. If you thought Rose Rendezvous was too metallic or that it wasn’t wearable- you won’t have that problem with Spellbound. It is more subtle, but still offers a welcome and noticeable glow anywhere you apply it. It is incredibly finely milled, even more so than it’s predecessor. It’s available now from Nordstrom and Macy’s and retails for $42.00.

Comparison time!

(that’s Dior Amber Diamond in the case. I left it closed because mine is all smashed thanks to the post office- but still usable)

L-R (direct sunlight): Dior Amber Diamond, MAC Definitely Defined, Estee Lauder Modern Mercury, Laura Mercier Rose Rendezvous, Laura Mercier Spellbound, MAC Whisper of Gilt, Estee Lauder Heatwave

If you like (or love) Dior Amber Diamond, do yourself a favor and pick up Spellbound. It’s what I wanted Amber Diamond to be. Don’t get me wrong, Amber Diamond is lovely, but it’s more subtle. Spellbound is the amped up, take no prisoners version (and slightly peachier). I love it. It’s much less metallic than Modern Mercury and not nearly as gold as Whisper of Gilt or Heatwave. Definitely Defined is more pink and not quite as reflective.

There isn’t a thing about Spellbound that I don’t love- with the exception of the price tag of course. But, for the money you are getting plenty of product and a gorgeous one at that.

Will you be indulging? What highlighter do you favor most in your collection?

  1. Spellbound is Gorgous! I usually go for a cream highlighter though this looks exquisite.

  2. Looks so stunning, I love the way that it is not so pink but more peachy. I already ordered mine and can’t wait until it arrives here!
