It’s all too frequent that I judge a beauty item by what I see in the pan before I swatch it. Thoughts like “that’s too dark” or “that’s so plain” come to mind. I am finding though, even more frequently, that there can be such beauty that lies beneath something seemingly so average. Case in point, the Giorgio Armani Écailles Cheek and Face Duo- something I hadn’t paid much attention to because of the amazing-at-first-sight Eyes to Kill Silk Shadows (featured here) and the Écailles luxury shadow palette (shown here). I now regret that, and you will see why.

The duo contains a neutral pink that has brown tones to it and a pearl highlighter. It’s encased in Armani’s signature black packaging with a magnetic closure (a feature I enjoy). To truly see the way the light plays off these two colors you need to see it up close…

The powder is *so* finely milled. It’s the same texture as the Giorgio Armani bronzer that I love so much. The pair work well together and create an effortless glow to the cheeks.

See how gorgeous? Flawless, really. The lasting power is excellent. My skin leans oily and especially so in the humid summer months, but this duo lasts through an entire work day on me. I’m definitely impressed!

Of course, you need to see how it actually looks on so…

Also wearing: Eyes- MAC Nubile Paint Pot, MAC Jaunty shadow, MAC Nautical Navy liner. Lips- Fresh Sugar Rose balm.

This duo is limited edition so if it strikes your fancy you will need to act sooner rather than later. It retails for $59 and is worth every penny.

Pretty!! This is definitely a blush color I can get behind.

Does the packaging have the shell design like the eyeshadow palette?

  6. You’re right! This IS normally something that I wouldn’t look into, but it looks great swatched and on you! My GA wish list keeps getting longer and longer!

Oh Danielle…your makeup (and face in general!) is always so pretty. You do liner like nobody’s business! :)

Oh right, the blush *ahem* Yea, it’s pretty crazy when you can tell just from a swatch that the blush has a lovely texture – it seems to just melt into your skin and look SO natural! It frustrates me that for the majority of these brands (G.A., Burberry, etc), I have to order sight-unseen, or wait till I travel somewhere that sells these – argh!!! However, posts likes these really help me as if I get impatient and do order online/via phone, I have a good idea of what will work. So thank you my dear!! Great post, as always :)

In truth I’ve only glanced at this product because it almost looks (I hate to say it) boring in the pan. But WOW the finish! Not only in the swatch but also on your skin … it’s almost silken.

This looks like a true winner!

  9. Wow. Wowww. The pan close-up and the swatches, I have to admit I wasn’t taken by this at first sight but that finish and sheen is just amazing.

P.S. You’re so gorgeous all the time! How do you do it? Love your FOTD.

  10. This is so beautiful on you and so natural looking! If it works on your skin hopefully it will work on my mine (mine is pretty darn oily). When I drove a few hours north the other week to check out some Giorgio Armani foundations for my sister (she’s thinking of wearing the Luminous Silk for her wedding in Sept.), I saw this compact and was so drawn to it…but had to deny myself a swatch. I knew I would love it and I knew I shouldn’t buy it…it was one of the few times when my willpower actually won out! :P
