Clarins Summer 2012: Call Me Ella Because I’m Enchanted!

Believe it or not there are times when I feel like the makeup collections being released are just so boring and underwhelming. Things we see over and over again. This spring was a good example of that. Most of the spring collections that were released earlier this year seemed so… blah, at least to me. But then the summer collection pictures starting releasing and I was put under a spell once again… this time by Clarins.

The Enchanted palette comes beautifully adorned and in a red velvet pouch. Gorgeous!

But, of course the inside is the truly stunning part…

It was so pretty I couldn’t bring myself to touch it…at least for a day. This palette was designed for Clarins by Véronique Kechichian, a very talented Parisian free-lance designer and you can visit her website here. This palette is truly a work of art.

I have never tried Clarins eyeshadows before so this was a new experience for me. I have to say the texture impressed me. The bottom light shade is kind of crumbly- it’s sort of a creamy powder shade and it’s very sparkly. I don’t take issue with this because I love me some shimmer and sparkle, but it’s worth noting for those of you who don’t. The thin strip is a cream liner- a beautiful bronze-brown with loads of dimension.

I also picked up the Kohl Kajal in Violet. I have never tried a Kajal liner like this before so I was so pumped when this arrived.

The texture is creamy and perfect for smudging. Do be careful when removing and replacing the cap though- it came with a special warning sticker because being too clumsy can cause the kajal part to break off (it’s that creamy).

Swatched: Clarins Enchanted Palette and Violet Kajal

And because I couldn’t resist applying these beauties to my eyes:

The copper/gold color is my favorite! It’s the most wearable copper color I have come across and it is SO silky. Most turn too orange on me but this has enough gold in it to keep it just right.

Do you have your eye on anything from the Clarins Summer collection? Do you have any makeup that you feel is too beautiful to use? Do tell!

HO-LY CRAP. That is GORGEOUS!! I must own the palette and the kohl! The look you pulled together Danielle was absolutely stunning too, THANK YOU for posting this, I can’t wait till I see this on counter :) :) :)

8O I am in LOVE with this color combo! I bet it’d work really good at popping most eye colors, too. I can’t afford it at the moment but I’m going to try to fake it with stuff I have already. I wouldn’t be able to bring myself to disturb the etchings on the shadows anyway.

    • Danielle says:

You should definitely be able to find something in your collection that comes close, if not exact. That’s the only thing about this collection- the colors aren’t particularly unique. The gold/copper one is the most unique of the bunch for me, only because it’s not as orange as most coppery shades out there.

I SUDDENLY have my eyes out on this palette!!! thanks for letting me know about it! Ah i have seen those liners, are they hard to use?

    • Danielle says:

Not at first, but I think like Alison said that it will be interesting to see what happens because there is now way to sharpen it!

  9. Alison M says:

Soooo pretty! I liked that you used the color as liner and the neutrals on the eye. It’s a look I’m really starting to favor. That liner shade is beautiful! But the shape of the Kajal…it looks a bit impractical. I’m curious to see how it works out after many uses. And I know everyone loves the pattern in those shadows, but I much prefer the packaging details. Pretty pretty!

    • Danielle says:

Yeah, I’m probably going to have to use a brush with it. I don’t think there is any way to sharpen it- which I hadn’t thought of before purchasing. Oops!

  10. Larie says:

That Kajal looks amazing. I love the colors all together, and the design of the palette is simply amazing. Gorgeous!

  11. Dovey says:

I love the Kajal! The combination between the gold-copper and the violet is amazing :)

  12. Eugenia says:

OMG….This is absolutely KILLER!! I’ve seen some quickie online shots, but you have taken that to a whole new level. So loving both the palette and the kajal and that look at the end? Stunning! Yup….2 more items added to the “neverendingwishlist”!

    • Danielle says:

OMG I know. Just when I think I’m satisfied a new collection comes out or someone features a hidden gem and the vicious cycle continues!

  13. Vita says:

    I love that combination!

  14. KatXoXo says:

Very cute palette, love the packaging!
    ❤❤

  15. cindy says:

Does the pencil run or smudge when you are not wanting the smokey eye look??

    • Danielle says:

I would imagine that it would, although I haven’t it worn it that way. I only use it for smudgy looks because it’s so perfect for that. Most pencils I have you get like 10 seconds to smudge them- this gives you so much more time. I set it with a powder shadow or translucent set powder to keep it in place. But it’s definitely not one of those stays put all day if you just wear it as a liner.

  16. Anna says:

That is such a beautiful palette. How did kajal wear on the waterline since it’s so creamy?

    • Danielle says:

It wears nicely, but it needs to set if you use it on the upper or lower lashlines or you can get serious smudging. I wore it smudged out (which is really the point of the kohl kajal) on the lashlines set with powder and it stayed on me fine. :)

  17. Maria says:

The Kajal looks so amazing! I am going to have to buy it now, enabler!
    <3

Loved the palette design too, it was such a piece of art!

  18. I’ve seen a couple of reviews on this palette and have been stunned everytime I saw it. Like you, I don’t know that I would be able to actually touch it for a while. Grrrl, you are really pulling off that copper/ purple look– well done you. I don’t think I’m brave enough to mix it up with color like that yet.

  19. jenn says:

    Gorgeous palette.
It looks like it would work for a lot of skin tones!
