BLUSH!!! OK, I worked hard this morning to get lots of comparison swatches up for those who are trying to decide what blushes to get. I haven’t had time to review or test these for wear time yet, so this is really for color choosing purposes only. I will say that all of the blushes went on smoothly, evenly and all but one have a nice sheen (not shimmer) to them. These are some of the finest MAC blushes I have ever tried, in fact. I have tried two of them on my face and the color payoff is excellent.

6 new limited edition blushes are being released: Full of Joy, Immortal Flower, Peony Petal, Mondern Mandarin, Pink Tea, Lovecloud

What I really wanted to do was show the differences or similarities between these new shades and shades I had from a variety of brands in my collection already. I hope this helps!

MAC Pink Tea

Clockwise from top: MAC Pink Cult, Tarte Exposed, NARS Douceur, MAC Pink Tea

Swatches L-R (natural light): Douceur, Pink Tea, Pink Cult, Exposed

Swatches L-R (flash): Douceur, Pink Tea, Pink Cult, Exposed

Pink Tea is a lovely, natural and neutral blush. Pink Cult is closest, but it’s more grey and has a completely matte finish.

Clockwise from left: Stila Custom Color Blush, MAC Peony Petal (I forgot to take an individual photo…oops!), NYX Pinky, NARS Desire

Swatches L-R (natural light): Stila Custom Color Blush, MAC Peony Petal, NYX Pinky, NARS Desire

Swatches L-R (flash): Stila Custom Color Blush, MAC Peony Petal, NYX Pinky, NARS Desire

Peony Petal is closest to the Stila blush, but it’s lighter and less pigmented and has a sheen to it. The Stila Blush is completely matte. I would say if you have the Stila blush to skip Peony Petal. You can sheer out the Stila blush enough to make them look *very* similar when worn.

MAC Lovecloud

Clockwise from left: MAC Subtle Breeze, MAC Lovecloud, Tarte Dollface, MAC Fleur Power

Swatches L-R (natural light): Subtle Breeze, Lovecloud, Dollface, Fleur Power

Swatches L-R (flash): Subtle Breeze, Lovecloud, Dollface, Fleur Power

I also feel like Lovecloud (lovely as it is) could be skipped. Tarte Dollface is incredibly similar. Dollface is permanent so if you wanted a color like this you can easily pick it up from Ulta or Sephora any time.

MAC Full of Joy

Clockwise from left: MAC Azalea Blossom, MAC Full of Joy, MAC Briar Rose, Tarte Adored

Swatches L-R (natural light): MAC Azalea Blossom, MAC Full of Joy, MAC Briar Rose, Tarte Adored

Swatches L-R (flash): MAC Azalea Blossom, MAC Full of Joy, MAC Briar Rose, Tarte Adored

Full of Joy is proving to be a popular choice. I have seen many people say that their stores are already sold out of this blush on pre-order. That’s crazy! Anyway, it’s most similar to Azalea Blossom- but it’s lighter. They are definitely on the same vein. I tried Full of Joy on last night and actually enjoyed the way it looked on me. It’s personal preference but it is a rather unique shade.

MAC Immortal Flower

Clockwise from bottom left: Tarte Blissful, Sleek Pan Tao, MAC Fresh Honey, MAC Immortal Flower, Illamasqua Lover, MAC Ripe Peach

Swatches L-R (natural light): Tarte Blissful, Sleek Pan Tao, MAC Fresh Honey, MAC Immortal Flower, Illamasqua Lover, MAC Ripe Peach

Swatches L-R (flash): Tarte Blissful, Sleek Pan Tao, MAC Fresh Honey, MAC Immortal Flower, Illamasqua Lover, MAC Ripe Peach

I really thought this would be darker. It’s quite a light peach compared to others that I have. It was also the least pigmented of all the blushes in the collection. It’s lovely, but if you already have plenty of peaches in your collection I don’t know that it’s a must-have. But, it’s definitely different than the other peaches I own, as you can see. I just expected something…different I guess.

MAC Modern Mandarin

Clockwise from left: NARS Gilda, Illamasqua Excite, MAC Modern Mandarin, NYX Cinnamon, Tart Tipsy, NARS Taj Mahal, Barry M Apricot

Swatches L-R (natural light): NARS Gilda, Illamasqua Excite, MAC Modern Mandarin, NYX Cinnamon, Tart Tipsy, NARS Taj Mahal, Barry M Apricot

Swatches L-R (flash): NARS Gilda, Illamasqua Excite, MAC Modern Mandarin, NYX Cinnamon, Tart Tipsy, NARS Taj Mahal, Barry M Apricot

I am actually shocked that Modern Mandarin doesn’t have a dupe in my collection. I am also pretty surprised at how coral it is. When I think of Mandarin I think more of orange, and this is definitely more coral. It’s a beautiful blush and definitely worthy of purchasing. In person NARS Gilda is darker, but probably the most similar. Once again though, it lacks the sheen the MAC one has.

Overall I would definitely recommend Modern Mandarin and Pink Tea and Full of Joy if you are into those kinds of colors (I am). I would skip Lovecloud and Peony Petal if you already have something similar, and if you have access to the ones I mentioned that were very close. I am on the fence about Immortal Flower- the pigmentation wasn’t what I expected, but it is a nice buildable shade and ends up being pretty unique.

*whew* I really hope this helped! Let me know if you have any other questions or comparison requests…if I have it I will be happy to do more. :)

  1. Wow! Thank you so much for all these swatches, Danielle!

I had my eye on four blushes; but from seeing your post, I think I’m just going to get two of them. Hooray for saving money! :p

  2. Jessica says:

So happy with my decision to get Immortal Flower! I was nervous it’d be too similar to Ripe Peach/Lover: your swatches have put my mind at ease. As a blush addict I have to add that this post is total makeup porn! Beautiful!

  3. Larie says:

This was extremely helpful, Danielle! I think…I can safely skip all of them! Woohoo! *throws confetti* Thanks, my dear!

  4. Thank you so much for this, I am so excited for this collection. This has helped me realise which I ‘need’ and which ones I already have dupes for. I don’t need any, but its blush, its mac and it limited addition. xx

  5. Sarah S. says:

Bless you, you Angel, for providing these comparisons! I can’t afford to buy all of them right now (as I’d love to :P) but it’s such a relief to know I already have similar colors (Tarte Tipsy & Dollface, Illamasqua Lover, MAC Azalea Blossom… and you’ve reminded to me to dig out my NYX Cinnamon, as well!)

  6. Miss LV says:

  9. Kristi says:

What fantastic swatches! I really appreciate the sheer amount of time & effort it took to put this post together! It is very useful to see the colors compared to such a variety of other blushes. That helped me know that I’ve got several blushes that are similar so I don’t really ‘need’ any of them. If I do decide to get some, I can make an informed choice, thanks to your post. I hope you had a great trip!

    • Danielle says:

Wow, thank you Kristi! I know, I feel like I deserved a real break after getting all those swatches/photos/posting done! Glad to know it’s appreciated!!! :)

  10. Kelly says:

these are so pretty! If I end up picking up one of these, I’m totally going to get the modern mandarin!

  11. thanks a lot! Unfortunally this collection won’t arrive in Italy :( but I like to look at swatches and yours are perfect^^

  12. Dovey says:

Hi Danielle, these are gorgeous, especially all lined up like that. It soothes some part of my makeup soul :) I think my favorite would have to be Pink Tea because of the soft color and the ‘tea’ in the name. Lovecloud is a close runner up!

  13. LilA11 says:

Just wanted to say thank you! You confirmed my choices by posting the comparisons/dupes for the blushes! Kisses to you! :)

  14. Jenn says:

You’re a money-saver literally! Lol. I had my eye on four of these blushes: MM, LC, PC, and FoJ. However, seeing as I have Tarte’s Tipsy and Dollface, I’ll have to pass on MM and LC. Thank you for the swatches!

  15. BooBooNinja says:

I didn’t realise how similar NARS Douceur and Tarte Exposed are.
Are there any differences between them?

    • Danielle says:

They are similar, but definitely different. Exposed leans more pink and is more pigmented, while Douceur is sheer and leans much more brown. :)

  16. Jessica says:

Beautiful swatches & great comparisons, as always! I think I need to get my hands on Immortal Flower, as soon as possible. >_< <3

Thank you for the awesome pics and comparisons, greatly appreciate. I will go with Full of Joy for sure… not sure about the rest, maybe Immortal Flower or Modern Mandarin (everyone is going nuts over that one but I think it’s too reddish for me).

    • Danielle says:

Thank you Justine! Glad to know it helps–these comparison posts are quite time-consuming so I love getting feedback that people actually find them useful! :) Full of Joy is so lovely and unique…both Immortal Flower and Modern Mandarin are very popular…can’t go wrong I say! :)

  22. Toya says:

This is fantastic Danielle, thank you SO much for these swatches! I love blush but I hate duplicates, and I wondered how close these would be to some shades I own / shades I want to buy. This was TERRIBLY helpful, you’re awesome :)

  23. Great swatches Danielle. This was very helpful! Have my eye on Peony Petal :)

  24. Jamie Claros says:

Thanks so much for this! I ordered Modern Mandarin online two days ago, but I also just received Tarte Tipsy in the mail. Do you think they’re similar enough that I don’t need both? And if so, which would you say would be better to keep? Or would you say they’re different enough?

    • Danielle says:

You’re asking a blush addict here, so keep that in mind ;) …but yes, I think they are different enough. Tipsy is a bright, pinked coral-completely matte and lasts all day on my skin. Modern Mandarin has a sheen, and leans more orange–though not traffic cone orange…a very wearable coral-orange. Both are lovely! I would be hard pressed to pick just one. I tend to prefer the Tarte formula to MAC blushes by far, but this formula feels different- smoother, yet still so pigmented. Having said all that I realize that not everyone shares my passion for blush. If you live in a place with a good return policy you can try them both out and return the one you liked less. :) Don’t feel bad about returning a product, that’s why companies have those policies in place- so consumers can try them and if they are not fully sold on it or unsatisfied they can return. Hope that answered your question (the long, round about way!)

Thanks very much for the swatches. I’m ordering some new limited edition products from a friend’s blog sale & wanted to see how Modern Mandarin compared to similar shades & brands as I unfortunately missed out on some of these limited edition products when they came out. Definitely going with Modern Mandarin as it’s absolutely gorgeous & I’m getting it cheaper than it was when it was released. Now I’m hoping to find Pink Tea really soon! Your swatches are extremely helpful. Thanks once again :-)

    • Danielle says:

Thank you so much for the lovely comment! I hope you were able to find Pink Tea. It was a surprise favorite for me from the collection.
