Hi Ladies! You will be seeing a series of blog posts over the next week or so on several other wonderful blogs. We all banded together in our support of breast cancer research and to promote breast cancer awareness.

In 2011 alone 230,480 women were diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S. alone. 39,520 women succumbed to the disease this year. Those numbers are staggering (from the National Cancer Institute). Ever since I first heard about breast cancer I also heard in tandem that early detection was the key to beating and fighting the disease. It’s important that you know your body and see your doctor when and if you notice something changing, no matter how slight. Know the risk factors and be your own advocate.

But as sad as the disease is, there is hope. Susan G. Komen for the cure is an excellent organization helping raise awareness and funding major research projects. The 5 year survival rate of breast cancer is 90%. We need to get that 10% back. Whether you donate your dollars or your time, the most important thing any of us can donate is our voice, because when we stand together and stand in solidarity we step closer to a cure.

I decided to pull out some of my pink products and create a FOTD and NOTD to show my support for breast cancer research.

Think Pink!

I also decided to do an ombrΓ© manicure with three pink polishes I own from OPI.

Speaking of pink products, there are several companies whose beauty products you can buy and a portion of the proceeds while be donated to breast cancer research, I have selected a few of the offerings that are available this month if you are looking for new products and want to support a worthy cause.

Sonia Kashuk Proudly Pink Brush Set

And, Tarte Cosmetics is holding a giveaway on their site here and for every unique entry received they will donate $0.20 to the Young Survival Coalition (up to $2500). 10 winners will receive a Tarte Lipsurgence Matte Lip Tint in Hope.

Whether you are personally a survivor, know someone who was a victim or if you are 6 degrees from it… keep fighting, stay strong and keep the conversation going.

Hi Danielle, I think it’s so wonderful you are doing this! My aunt (dad’s sister) and my mother-in-law are breast cancer survivors. You look so pretty and girlie in your FOTD (and I am so jealous of your complexion, have you done a skincare routine post recently? I’m so curious!) and the ombre nail look is making me think of strawberry icecream πŸ™‚

Thanks Sarah! Wow, I am very glad they are survivors and not victims. That must have been tough for your family!
I haven’t done a skincare post lately, but now that you mention it, I really should! Thanks for saying that dear *hugs*

Way to go girl! Thanks again for organizing this amazing initiative. I love the ombre nails – pretty and support the cause.

  6. The 2011 Breast Cancer numbers are so shocking. It is one thing to know it is a very serious disease, it’s another to actually see the numbers and have it put into perspective. On a happier note, I love the ombre nails idea!! So fun πŸ™‚
