Last day of August! Cannot believe how fast this month has gone by. I also cannot believe how little I use lipgloss anymore. I have become super sensitive to anything that is sticky. I plain won’t put it on my lips. I have been opting, instead, for lipstick/lipgloss hybrids. You’ve seen my post on the amazing drugstore hybrid lipsticks from the UK, and I’ve also tried out the Rouge Coco Shines from Chanel. But, always in search of something different and unique, I found the Tarte LipSurgence Natural Lip Lusters. Now, the first one I discovered in a kit I purchased from QVC and after that…it was love.
If you aren’t familiar with these, they are the quintessential lipstick/lipgloss hybrid…and their packaging makes them much easier to apply than others I have tried. They are jumbo pencils, so they easily draw on. They twist up at the bottom and are color coded to easily identify the shade you are reaching for. They have a minty scent, but no flavor. They aren’t “plumping” so no need to worry about tingly or burning sensations here (as frequently happens to me when I use the so-called plumpers). There are three different formulas of the LipSurgence line (Tint and Matte are the other two) but Luster is my favorite. They have a glossiness built in as well as a multi-dimensional shimmer. I like my glosses with shimmer so it’s no surprise I was attracted to this line. I do have one of the Tint formulations, and I like that as well for more of a natural, moisturizing stain. The Matte ones I don’t care for as much…mainly because I am not a huge fan of matte lipsticks in general. You can find these on Tarte’s website, Ulta, Sephora and QVC.
Lip swatches are so helpful to me when I am looking at lip products, so I thought I would do lip swatches of all the shades I own:
They are not as sheer as some of the glossy lipsticks like YSL’s Volupte Sheer Candy line, but definitely not as pigmented as say, the Burberry Lip Mists. They aren’t the least bit sticky and they glide on with ease. They have average wear time on me of about 3-4 hours; some of the glossiness wears off to reveal more of a shimmery lip stain.
It’s hard to choose favorites here because they are all really lovely…but if I could only have 3 I would choose Sweet, Adored and Frisky….but Glisten is really starting to win me over as well. I cannot wait for the next QVC Auto-Delivery Set of the Glow Your Way to Gorgeous in October because another new shade will be coming in that kit.
And, just in case lip swatches aren’t your thing, here are the swatches on my skin as well:
These have solidified a place in my purse and my travel makeup bag. If you are a fan of gloss without the stickiness, you really need to give these a go.
What are your favorite glossy lipsticks? Do you prefer ones that are sheer or more pigmented?
I know. *groan* at the title… *grimace* at the thought of long cold months in sweaters. But, fall is in the air. It’s official start is near the end of September, but it’s breathing down my neck and giving me the itch for fall fashion and accessories. So today’s Top 5 Tuesday is going to highlight my must haves for the fall season.
What say you? Are you ready for fall to get here or are you pleading for a few more weeks of summer heat? Also, dish on what your favorite fall accessories are, because I’m nosy like that.
I realized the other day after going through all of my un-cropped/un-resized photos that I had a lot of FOTDs I had taken and never posted. I thought I would share with you the results of some of those and if you take a liking to one look or another, I can do a full post sharing all of the products I used. Otherwise, I will note the main product that sticks out to me that I used for the look at hand.
This FOTD was created to show how I used Bare Escentuals Prime Time primer in Urban Nature and MAC’s Vex eyeshadow. Trying to capture the color was difficult!
I wanted to do a look showing how blue mascara looks on. It’s very eye-brightening! This mascara is Hard Candy Ginormous Lash in Electric Blue. In the crease in MAC Parisian Skies.
This is a more natural FOTD. I used Evolution Revolution lipglass. I also wanted to show how using a gold liner brightens on the lower lashline. Here I used MUFA aqua liner in 9L.
Sometimes I capture an image that isn’t quite…posed…so you get a half smile I was going out shopping and to dinner and wanted something more fierce. I was inspired by the second look Nicki Minaj wore in her Super Bass video. I used MAC Platinum Pigment with Fix+ for the inner corner, very inner part of upper lid. I also mixed together MAC Pink Friday lipstick with MAC Chatterbox lipstick. It made a great bright, medium-warm pink
I snapped this FOTD after receiving my swap with the ever-so-lovely DelytefulSpeaks. That’s Illamasqua Furore Pigment with Fix+ on my lids, Burberry Russet Blush on my cheeks, and Inglot #104 lipstick on my lips.
I don’t often use black on my waterline, but when I go out sometimes I like to be a bit more dramatic. That’s TopShop lipstick in Infared on my lips, many thanks to fabulous J. from Lil Lady’s Life for sending this my way!
Not everyone may have seen this when I twitpic’d it weeks ago, but this is Illamasqua Ore pigment. I used it wet, dry and dry over wet to create a multidimensional look with only one shadow on my lids…of course, the great lighting at the time really helped
I was testing out some Mally products here. The Just Heaven blush and highlighting duo is what I used on my cheeks and Blossom lipgloss on my lips (incidentally one of my favorite lipgloss shades ever).
I remember when I wore this look! This was what I wore when I went to CCO sometime in late June or early July. This was Urban Decay’s 24-7 glide on pencil in Deviant on the lower lashline.
That’s all I have for now. Some FOTD’s are meant to never see the light of day…and others just need to be shared. The rest I keep under lock and key (and SSL encrypted Fort Knox like passwords) I need to get better about posting FOTDs right away…instead of letting them collect dust on my hard drive!
It’s almost Friday; I can hear bells ringing and choirs singing. Yeah, weekends really are *that* good. Anywho…I have had a major makeup dilemma brewing for quite some time. I have yet to find my perfect nude lipstick. Nope, haven’t found it. I have tried many recommendations from fellow bloggers, wandered around Sephora, Ulta, and various makeup counters and haven’t spotted “the one.” Either I don’t like the formula (I’m looking at you YSL) or the color is too pinky (MAC Shy Girl) or makes me look dead (MAC Viva Glam Gaga 2). There are several more I have tried in between there…and some I still like (MAC Creme d Nude, Revlon Just Enough Buff) but they aren’t my *perfect* shade. The closest I have come right out of the tube is MAC’s Freckletone, which incidentally is probably my most used MAC lipstick. I like my nude lipsticks to be peachy-brown…which is how Freckletone looks on me. It *is* a great shade on it’s own…but I thought I would give it a little bit of a mix session with some other lip products and see what would come of it.
Photo Story time! Beware…super up close pictures of my lips coming up!
I started with bare lips and a bit of Korres Jasmine Lip Butter for moisture.
Then I added MAC’s In Synch and Naked lip liners. I just dabbed it on with my fingers rather than drawing intense, bold lines on my lips.
Then I added Freckletone. Ahh, we are getting so close to ideal shade territory!
For the final step and nude lip perfection I reached for MAC’s lipglass in Evolution Revolution.
I love how this turned out. And even with the lipglass it’s surprisingly not sticky! It must be he combination of everything that takes the sticky away because normally lipglass drives me mad.
I am still on my search for the one tube that does it all and have a few contenders in mind (Burberry Romantic Rose, NARS Belle du Jour) that I want to try next. (Side note, this picture washed out the color of the nude lip a bit. It’s more accurate in the up close pic)
And gratuitous mirror shot, because I kinda like the way it looked for some reason.
There you have it. What’s your favorite nude lipstick/lipgloss combo? Are you even a nude lip fan? Dish!
It’s been awhile since I updated the nail polish hauling I have done. The last nail polish swatch-a-thon I did was back in May already…time flies! In case you aren’t aware, I am a pretty big polish fanatic. I change my polish about every other day and love love love sparkle on my tips. Some of the new fall collections have launched and so I thought it might be nice to share some of what I have gotten so far, and what I hauled over the last two months or so.
These are from the Rock ‘N’ Romance Set from Nordstrom’s. The formula on all of these is brilliant.
Did Heat of the Night give you a flash back to another polish? Good, because it did for me too…
China Glaze Lubu Heels on left and LMdB Heat of the Night on the right. They both have that black/brown base to them but the shimmer in LMdB is so micronized. It makes it look so different, and gives it a coppery feel (typing that reminded me of David Copperfield) LOL. If you liked Lubu Heels, you will probably want to get your hands on this shade. They aren’t dupes, but I would say they are in the same family somewhere.
Now I have heard and seen comparisons of Revlon Carbonite and Chanel Graphite…here are some of the photos I snapped to show how similar/different they are.
Normally I don’t do blurred pictures, but when I saw this next photo on my camera screen I thought it really illustrated the true difference in sparkle:
My conclusion is that while Carbonite and Graphite are both very similar in initial shade and tone…Graphite’s sparkle factor is about 100x that of Carbonite. The Revlon version is of course a better deal and if the sparkle doesn’t bother you, grab that one. But if you are in the mood to splurge and sparkle is everything…go for the Chanel. I cannot believe I am saying that. I feel like a criminal recommending buying a $25 nail polish.
One last comparison for you. At a CCO trip this past July I found MAC Soiree nail polish from the Cham-Pale collection this past winter. It was a “sold out” shade and I never have interest in MAC polishes because of how terribly they perform on me…but CCO prices make it more bearable. I picked it up out of curiosity to see how close it compared to my beloved Orly Rage.
Whew. That was a lot to get through. I hope this helped you find some new polishes for fall or to add to your everyday collection. I am excited for other shades still to come and for winter shades (Christmas nails are always my favorite). What collection for fall has interested you most? Have you picked any up yet?
